Great Britain (Wreck Mail) 1892 (OC 27) envelope addressed to a passenger on board the “S.S. Roumania” at Port Said (whilst en route from Liverpool to Bombay) franked 1887 Jubilee 2½d. purple/blue tied Irvine cds. The Roumania was wrecked near Penich, Portugal (Only 2 passengers and 7 seamen were saved). The reverse with Port Said arrival (3 XI) and Glasgow return of NO 14, the obverse with small manuscript “Lost HB” with initials (Henderson Bros being the holding agents for the mail at destination), red “Steamer lost” and signed, Glasgow cds NO 17 bottom left.

United States : (Wreck Mail) 1892 (19/1) 1c stationery card written in Milwaukee to Vienna, Austria and carried across the Atlantic bound for Southampton and Bremen aboard the ill-fated “S.S. Eider” which was wrecked on the Atherfield Ledge off the Isle of Wight. Violet framed cachet in German ‘Gehoben aus dem/ gescheiterten Schiff/ “Eider”’ applied in England, black straight-line FRANCO applied to show that postage had been prepaid despite absence of a stamp, which had been washed off by sea water. Wien arrival cds at top. A rare example on stationery, fine appearance.

Kuwait 1925 (11 MAY) Indian ‘Half Anna’ stationery envelope sent registered to Berne, Switzerland franked on reverse ‘KUWAIT’ overprinted ½a., 2a. and 3a. tied by three Kuwait REG date stamps (Donaldson type 7), the 3a additionally tied by arrival cds (6.VI.), the front with framed handstamp registration etiquette (Type 16); fine condition.

Hawaii (Interrupted Mail) 1941 (Dec 19) registered, Return Receipt Requested, 3c legal size stationery envelope to Philippines uprated with 3c. Jefferson, 15c. Buchanan and 3c Torch tied by two four-ring targets, reverse with Mahukona Hawaii Registered cds, Honolulu transit that ties the pair of Christmas seals, undeliverable because of the War gainst the Japanese at the destination, brown censor tape at side tied RELEASED/ BY I.C.B. – 58 handstamp on reverse, new Honolulu cds of Apr 13 1942 with final Mahukona arrival of APR 18, the front showing two-line RETURNED TO SENDER/ SERVICE INTERRUPTED; vertical central crease affecting one label otherwise fine item.
