1857 (23 Dec) unpaid entire with part contents to Constantinople, endorsed “voie de Trieste” bearing central St Gallen cds and a very fine strike of rare framed tax mark ‘3 – 5/ 2 – 20’ for 3 piastres 5 paras Swiss/Postal Union fee and 2 piastres 20 para postage beyond Trieste, to be paid by the recipient, reverse with Trieste Abends transit (26/12) and arrival cds of 8/1.






1865-66 three ‘Seated Helvetia’ printed commercial covers to Constantinople, all from Butschwyl, April 1865 30r red and 60r copper bronze, endorsed to travel via “Wien & Kustendje”, Dec 1865 cover with three colour franking at 90r rate to go via Trieste and 1866 cover endorsed to go by Marseille and franked two 60r copper bronze, the first two with arrival cancels of Austrian offices and the last French, a fine trio of covers, two with BPB Certs and last with P Guinand Cert .


1867 (6 Aout) entire to Narbonne, France bearing sigle-franking ‘Sitting Helvetia’ 30c. blue tied St Croix cds with another strike alongside, unframed P.D, Suisse Amb. Marseille E tpo at right, reverse with Swiss tpo’s, Geneva transit and arrival cds.

1867 outer letter sheet to Lyon franked ‘Sitting Helvetia’ 60c. tied by Geneva cds, unframed PD and red French entry cds Suisse Lyon, arrival backstamp.

1887 (16.XI.) local Kaiserstuhl ‘CHARGE printed document franked ‘Standing Helvetia’ 20c and 15c. Numeral plus local Canton Aargau 10c tax stamp, tied by three cds; a couple of tones.


1890 cover to Switzerland, franked 4d tied unclear numeral handstamp, 'ACCRA' date stamp in association, 'PAID/LIVERPOOL/BR PACKET' transit, reverse with arrival cancels; small surface faults in Accra cancel otherwise good condition.

1898 (14.XI.) parcel card to Copenhagen franked ‘Standing Helvetia’ 50c. and 1f. tied by Zurich Fahrp. Aufgabe R III cds, reverse with Hamburg transit and arrival cancel, repeated on front with instructional handstamps. A couple of pinholes at left.


1919 envelope from Osaka to Zurich, Switzerland franked on reverse with 1914-25 watermarked ‘Tazawa’ 2s., 3s. and 5s. not cancelled though despatch cancels appear front and back, cancelled instead on arrival in Switzerland with (inappropriate ?) two-line TIMBRE AU DOS/ MARKE RUCKSEITIG, Oberrieden arrival on reverse.


SWITZERLAND: 1703 (8 JUIL) Entire from Geneva to Malta without postal markings, fine and rare.


SWITZERLAND: 1854 (2 JUIL) Large Charge envelope to Estavayer franked 1852 Rayon III (T3 & 9) both with 3 large margins only, cancelled and tied by blue grill, with FRIBOURG . SUISSE 3 JUIL 1854 cds crossed out in red crayon, reinstated the following day, with matching oval CHARGE, all in blue, 2 vertical folds not affecting cancels or stamps, fine and good appearance. SWITZERLAND: 1868 (31 XII) Blue envelope to England franked 1864 Setting Helvetia 1f. gold pair tied by Winterthur c.d.s’s, registered with boxed CHARGE handstamp and oval REGISTERED LONDON / 1 JA 1869 oval datestamp alongside, French style segmented boxed registered handstamp andRegistered Liverpool backstamps in red, seals intact, backflap just shaved.
