Reverse with fine wax seal Legation Du Japon Madrid. Without arrival, some toning.
1774 (2 May) entire written from Frankfurt, Germany to Rouen routed via Paris, with manuscript “6” sols charge and fine straight-line PAR 69 handstamp; fine condition
1808 (17 Juin)part printed entire ‘Le Proviseuv du Lycee’ to Paris bearing straight-line METZ handstamp, italic ‘Service’ handstamp at base, arrival backstamp.
1850 (7 Dec) entire to Carlshamn, Sweden franked 1849-50 25c. pair (cut into at top and touched elsewhere) and two 1f. tied by four grille handstamps with Cette despatch in association, annotated at top “franco Hambourg” and two framed oxidised red PF handstamps applied, reverse with Hamburg date stamp and double-ring K.S.& N.P.A. Hamburg transit of Royal Swedish-Norwegian Post Office, Ystad arrival on front. A standard entire to Sweden was 0.60Fr upto 7.5g., this entire is franked at 2f.50, a four times rate plus 10c. Alternatively it may be that with the “franco tous” under stamps the sender just wanted to ensure sufficient postage to destination, so maybe a normal tariff overfranked 1f.90. A very interesting First Issue cover, Soluphil Certificate.
1851 (14 Mai) mourning cover to England franked horizontal pair of 1849-50 40c. with close to good margins all round cancelled by two grille handstamps and British Paid cds, Boulogne S Mer cds at left, arrival backstamp; some very slight toning but still a fine and attractive first issues cover.
1851 (23 Juil) entire to Baltimore franked 1849-50 Ceres 25c. horizontal pair (small fault bottom right corner) and 1f. with four large margins tied by ‘roller grill’, Paris cds in association at right, red framed PD and BR PACKET ‘5’ BOSTON date stamp at centre, annotated “by/ steamer/ from Liverpool”; a small closed tear runs down through to 'C' of 'Franc' on the 1f. an attractive first issue transatlantic cover.
1852 (20 Fevr) ‘Presidence’ 25c. blue close to large margins tied by ‘gros points’ on envelope to New Orleans with two strikes of framed ‘affrancht- Insuffisant’, a most unusual underfranked cover with this issue.
1852 small entire to St. Gallen, Switzerland, franked 40c. cut into at top with three other large margins showings parts of adjoining stamps, tied grille cancel, Paris despatch cds at right, reverse with Basel entry cds and arrival cds.
1858 (1 Dec) registered CHARGE cover to London franked 1853 imperf Napoleon 80c (four close to large margins) tied by petits chiffres ‘2164’, Morlaix cds in association, framed ‘Apres/ Le/ Depart’ and scarce ‘crown’ FRANCE REGISTERED in red, London Paid cds bottom right, reverse with three surviving wax seals and two French transits; some slight ink erosion not unduly detracting.
