(Crete) 1901 picture postcard of Leo Tolstoy from Russia to Crete with 1k. franking on each side with very fine ROPIT AGENT KRITI date stamp on reverse ( a less clear offset on front), the front bearing double-ring ROPIT CONSTANTINOPOLI transit and Greek Xania arrival; fine and scarce.
(Post Offices in Crete) 1898 (24 Nov) printed soldier’s envelope ‘From’ “Lca Sgt F. Pagett 5th Fusiliers Crete”, endorsed bottom left corner “British Forces Crete” , stamp cancelled Candia Oesterreichische Post cds, reverse with Dover Station Office cds; some slight faults to envelope, opened-out for display a rare and unusual item of mail from the International Peace-Keeping Force in Crete.
British Post Offices: 1898 (9.12.) cover to London bearing very fine 1.P.T. Union Jack revenue stamp and International Occupation Governor Monfatsi with manuscript initials, passed to Austrian Post Office with 1pi on 10c tied Candia Oesterreichsche Post cds of 12th, redirected upon arrival with London square circle at top, London S.W. arrival backstamp. Extremely fine examples of the British handstamps, the Union Jack handstamp was in use only from December 1898 to July 1899; a little roughly opened with tear top left.
