Egypt (French Napoleonic Occupation) 1800 (29 March) entire from Charles Louis Balzac (a member of the Commission des Sciences et Arts) addressed to an architect in Rosetta, inviting him to take part in a voyage to ‘Saide’, charged “4” decimes with a very fine strike of the rare upper-and-lower-case ‘Alexandrie’ (recorded only July 1799 to Oct 1800). Very rare cancel on private mail. Minor filing creasing and slight toning. Ex John Firebrace Cavendish 2001 and illustrated in his book “19th Ce. Wars”, p.17
