Very fine. A spectacular four colour combination of the ‘Kitai’ overprinted stamps on a registered cover to New Jersey - a particularly rare destination. The only recorded use of the registry label on cover. The ‘Kitai’ overprints on cover originating in Mongolia are quite scarce. Hellrigl (p. 48-49) estimate 30-40 covers are known. These stamps were not sold at post offices in Mongolia and were only valid for use in Chinese post offices - Peking, Tientsin, Shanghai, Hankow, and Chefoo. Therefore these stamps must have been brought in by the sender and tolerated by the post offices. According to Hellrigl, the is the only recorded use of this Urga international registry label on cover. The use of the United States is also noteworthy as only a handful of covers are recorded to this destination. Ex Casey. Illustrated in Hellrigl The Postal History of Mongolia: 1841-1941 (p. 48)
