Great Britain 1842 envelope ex Forbes correspondence from Bermuda where two 1d blacks applied, PJ and PF, the former with good to large margins showing portions of stamp above, the latter close to touched margins, endorsed “H.M.S. Illustrious Bermuda”, the last ‘a’ just tying PJ stamp, cancelled on arrival in Portsmouth with light Maltese Crosses. A couple of small envelope faults, PBA Certificate (1969). The only recorded use of the Penny Black from Bermuda.
The stamps on this cover are from the same plate and the same row as those used on a cover to the same addressee, dated March 1842, from Barbados, and would appear to be conclusive evidence that the adhesives were applied to both covers at the time of despatch.
