Peru 1866 stampless entire to Pisaqua with three-line manuscript “franca” notice for no stamps available, partly overstruck by very fine dotted MEJILL handstamp in blue. Very fine condition. 
Mejillones remained a Peruvian port until lost in the Battle of Angamos to Chile in 1879. The name of the town literally means Mussels, the locals main food source.
