Avoca’, bearing New South Wales 6d. violet and 1/- carmine tied by duplex, showing framed ‘INSUFFICIENTLY/STAMPED’, crayon ‘11’, handstruck ‘1d.’ and London Paid transit c.d.s., all in red; the envelope with part flap missing. A colourful franking marked to go via Marseilles but diverted via Southampton to avoid the Brindisi 3d. surcharge due to the Franco-Prussian war.
