CHINA: French Post Offices in China, 1881 (July 1): Envelope to Mainz franked with Sage 2 c., 4 c. and two 15 c. (YT France 85+88+77) tied by Gros Chiffres '5104' numeral with "SHANG-HAI / CHINE" cds in association alongside, reverse with German distribution (Aug 16) cds. The 2 c. is unrecorded with the gros chiffres '5104' cancel, believed to be a unique franking, signed Calves.


CHINA: French Post Offices in China, 1882 (Jan 31): Envelope to England franked with Sage 2 c. brown-red (2), 3 c. bistre / yellow pair and 15 c. blue (YT France 85+86+90) tied by Gros Chiffres '5104' numeral with "SHANG-HAI / CHINE" cds below, SOUTHAMPTON arrival (March 13) backstamp. A fine, unusual way to make up the 25 c. rate with a very rare multiple of the 3 c. bistre, a hugely important Sage cover.


CHINA: Hankow Local Post, 1896 (Aug 13): Cover to Shanghai franked redrawn Municipal Buildin CENT' on 30 c. pair tied by central light strike of "HANKOW LOCAL POST" cds in red v repeated on reverse together with arrival cds (Aug 17). An extremely rare multiple on cover. Provenance: Spink sale 19009, January 2019, lot 1208.


CHINA: Italian Post Offices in China, 1919 (June 1): Privilege Military card 'R.R. Truppe Italiane in Estremo Oriente' used to Venice with three-line cachet that has been overstruck with red framed censor cachet, part VENEZIA arrival above this. Fine and scarce card used whilst at Krasnojarsk, Russia.
