(Bremen transit mail) 1817 entire from Leeds, England to Bolzano, Italy, endorsed "via Hambrg" but instead routed via Bremen with straight-line E.P.B. handstamp, red desptach date stamp and red manuscript rates on front; light horizontal filing crease at top, a scarce routing handstamp.
1872 outer letter sheet to Stockholm, Sweden, endorsed “Via New York” and showing blue framed Aus Westindien/ uber New York handstamp, New York 7 transit at right showing the portion owing to Bremen, manuscript “8½“ (Gr) and “99” Ore, reverse with blue Bremen cds (inverted day of month) and arrival cancel. All of the similar mail known emanated from Cuba.
1875 (19 June) envelope to Germany with pair 50c. with ‘P.C.’ in circle cancels, stamps not valid as Cuba not a UPU member and thus framed ‘UNPAID’ handstamp applied at New York with handstamped ‘7’ alongside for credit to USA, this deleted in blue crayon and rated “80” on arrival. Fine example of framed ‘Aus Westindien/ uber Newyork’ handstamp at left applied at Bremen (Four franked letters from Cuba recorded). A fine and rare item. Ex Kouri. PF (1989) and Wijnants (2021) Certs.
