

1922 (1.3.) registered cover from Constantinople to Magnissa, Greece bearing on reverse single franking Merson 15pi. on 1f. tied French Post Office cds, transit Tresor et Postes 528 (of Smyrna), Greek Smyrna transit of 22 Feb and blue arrival cds of 24th where bilingually inscribed “Retour”, Greek Smyrna cds of 28th and a strip of selvedge applied and tied by two further strikes, return cancels of Constantinople and Galata; slightly reduced at side.


AUSTRIAN POST OFFICE IN SMIRNA: 1864 (12 9) Folded cover from Smirna to Stankowitz, Bohemia via Prague struck with fine SMIRNE datestamp of Consular P.O in black (Tchilinghirian fig 4) sent unpaid with erroneous usage of framed “6 ¼” Silbergroschen marking at Trieste and deleted with further strike (Van Der Linden fig. 3092), replaced by fine strike of framed “7 ¼” (sgr) hs in blue (Van Der Linden 3107), Prague transit and Stankowitz Sept 22 arrival, fine.


Greece 1767 folded entire from Smyrne, forwarded at Salonique by "Tavernier" (recorded by Rowe in 1767 only), held for three weeks and then sent to Naples where disinfected, a yellow cursive 'Salonico' applied in transit at Rome by the Neapolitan post Office; a rare item.
