Some staining at right side of 2L.55, insignificantly overfranked by 5c. A fine and rare use of the top value on a commercial cover. Signed Sorani.

(Formula Stationery) 1879 (AP 2) ‘2 CENTS’ dull rose on Mauritius Post Card printed formula to a Government School at Poudre D’Or, cancelled by fine and clear B53 duplex, with full message on reverse.


(Franco-Prussian War) 1870 Red Cross card of Lyon, franked 1863-71 Laureated Napoleon tied by ‘2145’ gros chiffres with Lyon date stamp in association, addressed to the Red Cross at Basle. On reverse Geneve-Culoz tpo cds, as well as message from french prisoner at Neuf-Brissac (Neubreisach, Germany).

(French Committee of National Liberation) 1943 Aid to Resistance imperforate proofs for a 5f+40f in red and top marginal 5f+40f in grey, the ‘40’ erased and “15” added in manuscript, unused without gum.

(French Currency) 1936 (30 MAY) registered cover to Switzerland franked 1925 50c. (5d.), 1f. (10d.) and 2f. (1/8) tied three Vila cds


(French Legion) Accumulation including carmine and blue Mi III/i missing accent in vertical marginal pair with normal, III/III with broken foot to ‘F’ in corner marginal pair with III/V missing accent on ‘special’, overprinted corner marginal block of four, position 24 missing dot over ‘i’, plus a single with the variety; fine mint never hinged.


(French Maritime Mail) 1870 (12 Mars) entire to Dijon, France bearing, at military concession rate, 20c Laureated Napoleon tied by anchor in dotted lozenge with Cor. D. Arm. Lig. T. Paq.Fr. no.2 cds at right, framed PD to right, reverse with Paris transit and arrival cds. A recently discovered cover from the Messageries Imperiales shipping agent in Mahe. The French Post Office at Mahe was open from 1864 to 1870, the agent corresponded back to France over this period. Of this correspondence of 11 covers only three bore French stamps.

(French Post Offices) 1865 (7 Aout) outer letter sheet to Paris franked 1862 10c bistre in horizontal strip of five cancelled/tied ‘5080’ large numerals with Alexandrie Egypte cds in association, framed PD and Marseille A Paris backstamp; light horizontal creasing.


(French Post Offices) 1879 (3 OCT) mourning envelope to France, endorsed “per English mail” bearing mixed issue franking Ceres 15c. pair and Sage 5c. tied by ‘5104’ large numeral lozenge with Shang-Hai Chine cds, unclear red French maritime datestamp, reverse with Marseille A Lyon tpo and arrival cds. Most of backflap missing and slight ageing but still a good example of a more unusual franking.


(French Post Offices) 1882 cover to Southampton franked Sage 2c. (2), 3c. bistre on yellow pair and a 15c. tied ‘5104’ large numerals with Shang-Hai cds below, arrival backstamp. A fine, unusual way to make up the 25c. rate and with very rare multiple of 3c.
