(German Post Offices) 1915 (13/12) large registered AR envelope to Tientsin with franking including a $½ on 1m, stamps tie Peking Deutsche Post cds, arrival backstamp. A scarce commercial franking with a high value, some faults to envelope and reduced at left.


(Interrupted Mail) 1941 (Dec 19) registered, Return Receipt Requested, 3c legal size stationery envelope to Philippines uprated with 3c. Jefferson, 15c. Buchanan and 3c Torch tied by two four-ring targets, reverse with Mahukona Hawaii Registered cds, Honolulu transit that ties the pair of Christmas seals, undeliverable because of the War gainst the Japanese at the destination, brown censor tape at side tied RELEASED/ BY I.C.B. – 58 handstamp on reverse, new Honolulu cds of Apr 13 1942 with final Mahukona arrival of APR 18, the front showing two-line RETURNED TO SENDER/ SERVICE INTERRUPTED; vertical central crease affecting one label otherwise fine item.


1890. 13 November, return receipt with certificate of posting, from St Petersburg to Ekaterinburg, bearing 7kop blue (1889 issue) tied by small double circle St Petersburg cds. At the top manuscript notation about 1,000R sent with this letter to the same recipient at Ekaterinburg. Reverse shows Ekaterinburg 25.11 despatch and St Petersburg arrival 6 Dez. 1890

1891 3m. on 5m. postal stationery card with a range of instructional hand stamps and cancellations of Samanoud including three negative handstamps and a Samanoud Caisse cds, Registration and T handstamps, AR and Return cancels. Very fine and unusual.


1893 (May 10) 10c. postal stationery envelope registered A.R. to Alger, Algeria, endorsed “via New Orleans New York”, cancelled with light blue-green Officine De Certificados oval-framed date stamp, registration handstamp with space for both number and weight, circular Guatemala A.R. handstamp, French red Chargements transits; fine condition.


1894 (5 Mar) registered AR cover to Boizenburg, Germany franked 1885-91 5c. and 20c. (one 5c. added without cancel) tied by barred ’M’ with CORREOS MONTE CRISTY date stamp in association showing inverted ‘5’ in date, blue ‘Avis De Reception’ label at left, New York registration etiquette over stamps, reverse with New York transits and arrival plus large red-violet ‘J. Stafelfel Monte Cristy Kaiserl. Deutscher Consular Agent.’; small tear at side and small paper adhesion on back. Ex Krug

1895 (Aug) '1895' 6c. on 5c. postal stationery envelope A.R. registered to Essen, Germany additionally franked on reverse with 'Arms' 1c (straight edge) and strip of three 6c.cancelled registration handstamp; fine condition.

1896-1901 group of five AR covers, two registration stationery and the others ordinary stationery, each with violet double-ring handstamp, all to same company in Hamburg from five different towns; fair to fine condition.


1897 (14 May) ‘AR’ registered cover to Algeria franked 10c. and 25c. (single and pair) tied by Noumea cds, reverse with five small golden studs, Marseille transit and Alger arrival cds. A few insignificant stains, a fine AR cover, Ex. Grabowski.

1898 (Mar 17) registered ‘AR’ envelope to Paris franked ‘Union of Central America’ 3c. and pair of 12c. each cancelled by violet ‘star’ in circle handstamp, San Salvador cds in association. The 3c overlaid with New York registration label, violet registration handstamp and A.R. handstamp, reverse with New York transit and arrival cds. Corner faults to envelope.

1899 (16 Dic) ‘Ministerio de Guerra y Marina’ printed envelope to the Paraguayan Consul at Buenos Aires, sent registered AR and franked 1891-93 small black OFICIAL overprinted 15c. (vertical pair) and 50c. tied Asuncion cds, registration label to right with ‘AR’ handstamp over ‘R’, arrival backstamp.

1899 (23 Set) cover to Buenos Aires, sent registered AR and franked 1892-96 60c yellow-orange corner marginal tied Asuncion cds, registration label to left with ‘AR’ handstamp over ‘R’, another two handstamps towards base, arrival backstamp.

1902 (1 Dec) AR registered cover to Strasbourg bearing single franking 75c. tied Fort de France Chargements cds, framed ‘R’ and ‘AR’ in same blue-green ink, arrival backstamp. A fine single franking.


1902 (2 June) AR registered envelope to St Petersburg, Russia which has been opened-out for display, the front bears 1900-03 New Currency 2ch., 5ch., 10ch., 15ch. (2), 20ch. pair, the reverse with 2re pair and 1895-98 2nd printings 5p., 10p. horizontal strip of three and a 25p. plus red handstamped 5p. 2nd printing and 1899-1900 1p on 25p red overprinted 25p., each stamp cancelled Seoul cds, the front bears registration handstamp and framed ‘A R’ , reverse with Shanghai transit and arrival cds; a couple of light stains not detracting from a remarkable cover.



1902 ‘Avis De Reception’ complete form for a letter from Haiphong Tonkin to Nottingham Road, Natal, franked with 10c. tied red Haiphong Tonkin date stamp, this date stamp repeated inside, also with Aden transit and T.P.O. Natal arrival.

1903 (10 Avril) stampless envelope to Paris, endorsed at top “Avis de Reception en retour”, blue handstamp CHARGE and Fort De France Chargements date stamp in same ink, bottom right with octagonal maritime Colon A St Nazaire L.A. No.1, arrival backstamp.


1903 (4.11.) Avis de Reception formula to Marseille franked ‘Levant’ 10c. Mouchon tied by Constantinople Stamboul Poste Francaises; some minor splitting to form, unusual.


1904 (17.VII) registered envelope to the Advice of Receipt Departmet of the Berlin Post Office, franked 50st brown and deep blue overprinted PCP (Pour Certificate Postale) tied Sophia cds, reverse with arrival cds, three blue scallop labels of the Berlin Post Office affixed at top; central vertical filing crease and small tear at top of envelope, a scarce cover.
