(German Post Offices) 1917 registered cover from a German Consulate to Buxtehude, Germany bearing single franking 20 Cents 20 on 40pf tied Schanghai Deutsche Post cds, New York transit backstamps (2.7. and 2.8.) where the cover was intercepted and two-line ’Mail service suspended/ to country addressed’ and two ‘RETURN TO WRITER’ handstamps applied, envelope opened for return address and sealed by three perf 12 Officially Sealed labels, duly returned via Tientsin (6 Mar 18) to Shanghai (9 Mar) where censored with the rare bilingual label tied by two red seals of censor and bilingual Shanghai cds; small ink stain at left otherwise a fine and rare item.
1914 (6 Nov) internal cover to Guadalajara franked by revenue stamps overprinted MEXICO that have not been accepted, one has been removed, two violet handstamps ‘ESTAMPILLA DE DOCUMENTOS’ and straight-line ‘NO franqueado’, Post Office sealing label at top which is affected by a vertical filing crease.
1917 (19 OC) registered cover to London franked 1916-19 4d. red/yellow together with 1d. War Tax tied by single cds, opened on arrival and redirected, sealed with three ‘Found Open And Officially Sealed’ at sides that are tied by Bracknell cds; some slight faults to envelope as to be expected, an early use of the War Tax stamp.
1924 (28.1.) registered cover from Berlin, Germany to Osaka, the envelope damaged in transit and two Officially Sealed labels applied at top, arrival backstamps, remains of delivery label at base.
1937 registered cove to Glasgow, Scotland bearing single franking 3d. Map tied Georgetown cds. The left corner with Post Office sealing tape tied by South Western S.O. Glasgow cds; unusual on a Caymans cover.
