FIJI: 1891 (Jan 7): Large printed 'Bank of New Zealand' envelope used from Suva to Melbourne endorsed "Per S.S. Rockton" franked by 4 d. on 2 d. pale mauve, narrow surcharge, perf. 10 vertical pair tied by type D2 cds's with date slugs inverted, arrival backstamp (Jan 16) and fine red wax Bank seals (one broken) on reverse, the cover roughly opened and slightly trimmed at right. Provenance: Collection Tuanjai, Grosvenor Auctions, Sept 2014, lot 914.


FIJI: 1893 (May 25): Long legal-sized envelope registered by B.H. Thomson from Suva to his wife in London franked by 2 d. yellow-green perf. 10 left marginal horizontal strip of five, one with damaged corner and right marginal single with 1 d. ultramarine perf. 11 x 10, manuscript registration marking, arrival backstamp (July 17). Vertical folds well away from the franking. SG 40+53 Provenance: Tuanjai Collection, Grosvenor Auctions, Sept 2014, lot 918.


FIJI: 1898 (NOV 18) Long registered envelope to USA franked 1891-98 1/2d. pair + 1d. mauve (3) + 2d. + 2 1/2d. (2) tied by G.P.O Suva Fiji c.d.s’s, various transit backstamps including 2 Canadian and 2 US registered, envelope reduced at left.

FIJI: 1902 (Oct 31): 1 d. postal stationery card with fine hand-painted image depicting a vessel in front of the tropical landscape, two SUVA datestamps. Without any message or address. Fine, scarce and highly attractive.


FIJI: 1918 (May 14): Underfranked local envelope with 1916 / d. and ½ d, green WAR STAMP tied by "SUVA FIJI" cds, at left framed 'T' handstamp filled "2½" and with 1917 Postage Due typographed locally ½ d. black and April 1918 Narrow Setting 2 d. black tied by sunburst handstamps in black. Finland 1858 cover to Uleaborg franked 10 kop. rose on wove paper with pen cross cancel and with at top framed WASA despatch. Stamp with four good to close margins, paying the correct longer distance rate. Cyril Schwenson certificate.

FINLAND: 1891 3r50k black & grey on horizontally laid paper in left hand bottom corner marginal block of four, hinged only in selvedge of corner margin, stamps unmounted of. A fine and very fresh multiple.


FINLAND: 1917 (I .IV) Russia used in 1914 War Charity 11r. cancelled on internal envelope to Helsinki with NIKOLAIS ... cds, repeated alongside Helsinki arrival backstamp, fine & scarce.


Fiume. 1889 5Kr stationery parcel card covering three parcels each 5kg. weight, uprated with vertical strip of three 30Kr. tied Fiume cds, reverse with Breslau transit and Berlin arrival.

Folded letter stated (pencil note) to be `1789 from St. Domingue to the Comte de Maulde, /BrIGADIER IN THE Army of the King/ T HIS Chateau at Buissiere, France. Bearing unframed circular Colonies Par Nantes handstamp and rated “24” sol. Fine condition.

Valence arrival bs (Dec 6). Scarce and impressive 2f10c franking.
