DUTCH WEST INDIES: 1788 Folded entire with full content dates ‘St Martin May 28 1788’, addressed to ‘Mr Thomas White, Berwick’, forwaded by British merchant vessel ‘Edwards’, handed over to the Lancaster post office where it recieved a fine strike of the black straight-line ‘LANCASTER’, forwarded to Berwick and charged ‘6’ on delivery. Some transportation trace and normal ageing, a fascinating and very early document from the Waite correspondence. Note: Interesting content where the sender writes to his brother, mentioning “this letter is be the ship Edwards, Capt. Damien who sails for Lancaster some time tomorrow. There will be another conveyance in a short time, a brig belonging to Capt. James Jacksen will depart from this island in ten or twelve days by which vessel i should write...”
