1882 (Jan 10) cover to Salem, NJ, USA franked 1880 2c. and 6c. ‘Liberia’ with frame lines all round cancelled with narrow six bar handstamps, Monrovia transit cds to left, below this red Paid Liverpool transit (31 JA), reverse with New York ‘opera glasses’ transit; some slight tones but generally clean and attractive.
1882 (JUN 7) ‘Executive Mansion/ Monrovia’ printed envelope addressed to the President of the Royal Geographic Society of Antwerp, Belgium, bearing single franking 8c cancelled by six bar cancel with Monrovia cds in association, arrival backstamp, a few trivial tone spots and sealed tear at top left, still very fine to a rare destination. Ex. Fosdyke Ray.
1890 (NO 10) 3 Halfpenny stationery card written from Cape Mount, Liberia but posted across the border at Sulijah whose unclear red cancel ties the stamp image, Freetown transit at left and Berlin arrivals of 10/12. Fine cross border card, using the faster mail service.
1891 (31 Aug) envelope to Birmingham, endorsed “Per s.s. angola” and franked 6c. Numeral cancelled six bar handstamp and also by two-line POSTAGE DUE/ PAID handstamp, Monrovia cds alongside that shows inverted ‘31’in date, Paid Liverpool Br Packet entry cds in red at bottom left, arrival backstamp (SP 19); fine and scarce.
