(some trimmed perfs) tied by Taganrog 15 Apr 65 cds with circular FRANCO handstamp alongside, disinfected in Odessa with fumigation slits and released 21 Apr, “50” in red crayon denoting charge of 50 lepta for French ship letter fee with Greece Large Hermes Heads 10l. and 40l. applied and tied by Piraeus cds, a very attractive combination franking, Ex Dr. Casey.
(Tunisia) 1865 (24 Nov) outer letter sheet to Genova bearing three 1863 40c rose-carmine cancelled with two double-ring Tunisi Poste Italiane cds, repeated at right, reverse with Cagliari transit and arrival cancel, disinfected with two horizontal slits, one of which passes through the stamps, Sorani and Dienna signatures.
1752 disinfected entire to Marseille datelined "Seffy" on top of letter and by 'Saffi' on side panel, disinfected with liberal quantities of vinegar causing slight ink running in places. A fine early item.
1754 disinfected entire to Marseille datelined “Saffi”, endorsed to travel with “Capt Ravie/ 2 D.C.” (Dieux Conduire), disinfected with vinegar. A good early letter.
1767 folded entire from Smyrne, forwarded at Salonique by "Tavernier" (recorded by Rowe in 1767 only), held for three weeks and then sent to Naples where disinfected, a yellow cursive 'SALONICO' applied in transit at Rome by the Neapolitan Post Office; a rare item.
1816 unpaid incoming disinfected entire from Ionian Islands bearing a fine accountancy ‘May: 28-?:2’ handstamp that is the earliest known usage, large Isole Ionie circular handstamp on front. An important item.
1819 entire to Palma, Isla de Mallorca bearing despatch handstamp ISLAS DE/ BARLOVENTO applied at Havana, entire endorsed bottom left “Berg Relampago” and with manuscript rating “6”, with central disinfection slit.
1837 entire from Alexandrie, Egypt bearing double ring cds of French Office on front, reverse with accountancy handstamp 17 January: 4d with the French postage added in manuscript, a charge of “1/8” totalling “2/-“, oval disinfection handstamp at left.
1838 incoming disinfected cover from Alexandrie (Egypte), endorsed “Col vapour Francea”, reverse with small straight-line ‘14 May; 8d’ with manuscript addition for French Postage, remains of red disinfection wax seal. Unusual mixture of accountancy.
1838 outer letter sheet to Genova bearing straight-line JASSY despatch handstamp, docketed inside as from “Fratelli Pedemonte” forwarding agents at Galatz, disinfected with rastel punch holes on arrival. Tchilinghirian suggests that the straight-line JASSY cancel started in 1840, this shows that in fact it was introduced earlier during Austrian Imperial Administration.
1840 (13 Marzo) entire to Firenze bearing fine 'Coat of Arms' handstamp on front and ornate framed 'CORFU' date stamp on reverse, disinfected in transit with two slits, straight-line 'Malta Post Office' handstamp, reverse with straight-line 'LIVORNO' and two-line 'APRILE/1840' handstamp. Small part of entire missing but generally fine appearance.
1842 entire from CONSTANTINOPLE to TRIESTE bearing on reverse extremely fine negative seal 'NETTO DI FUORA ET DI DENTRO' and with red wax seal 'Sigillium Sanitatis', arrival backstamp.
1844 (31/8) entire from Habana to Madrid bearing blue handstamp Correo Maritimo No.3 and framed arc FRANCO in same ink, annotated at base "Correp de la Empresa", disinfected with small slitting. Some wormholes and internal faults to entire, fine appearance.
1846 outer letter sheet to Jerez de la Frontera with straight-line YNDIAS handstamp and unaligned '5R' rating, reverse with Cadiz transit. Disinfected with large diagonal slit on reverse.
1850 cover from Derby to Corfu, endorsed "Via Ostend Vienne Trieste" bearing despatch cds, London transit, framed Aus England/ per Aachen franco handstamp and vertical accountancy handstamp 'd/53/8', disinfected with three slits; fine and scarce.
1855 outer letter sheet to Buenos Ayres, endorsed "Via Canarias" and "Paquete Ingles", prepaid 4 reales at Cadiz, disinfected and forwarded by the British Post Office at Teneriffe with Paid/Crown handstamp, "1/-" accountancy applied there showing share of postage due.Fine and attractive.
