(Alsace Lorraine) 1871 (18/Oct) folded invoice to Metz bearing mixed franking pair 20c. with upwards network and France 'Laureated Napoleon' 40c. tied 1386 large numeral with Elbeuf cds in association, framed P.P., the 20c. pair only tied by French cancels and bu two blue crayon lines, next day arrival backstamps.
(Austrian Post Offices) Ottoman 1869 Postage Due 1pi yellow-brown and red-brown, perf 5-11, used on 1870 outer letter sheet to Venice paying the internal rate from Scutari cancelled by extremely fine Scutari D’Albanie, franked Austrian Levant 5s and 10s (2) tied by Antivari cds for onward transmission. Arrival cds on reverse. The address re-written and some ageing around Austrian issues. A scarce and attractive combination. A Diena Cert. (1974)

(China Combination I.P.O.) 1900 (19 Feb) card to Salzburg, Austria, written in Volapuk International Language, franked China Coiling Dragons 1c. and 2c. with single Amoy cds paying domestic postage, overseas postage paid by 1c. stationery card and 4c. both bearing I.P.O. handstamps of Amoy and Hong Kong cds, arrival cds top left; fine and scarce use of stationery.
(China Combination I.P.O.) 1901 (17 Apr) card to Leipzig, from Swatow where domestic postage was paid in cash and bilingual cds applied, the 4c on 3c black surcharge stationery card bearing red framed I.P.O. handstamp and image tied Hong Kong cds, arrival cancels at left. The card with ‘Reply’ erased, a very rare usage of this stationery card.
(China I.P.O.) 1901 2c. postal stationery envelope to Leipzig, bearing bilingual Amoy cds where cash was paid for the internal postage, very unusually a 2c. stationery envelope has been used together with pair 4c. to make 10c. overseas rate all cancelled with two fine framed I.P.O. handstamps of Amoy and three cds, arrival backstamp. The backflap is missing but a very rare example of cash paid on a stationery envelope.
(Corfu) 1942 pair of censored covers to Athens franked ‘ISOLE JONIE’ overprinted postage issues in combination with Greek Postal Staff Anti-tuberculosis 10 lepta, one cover with five such values and a 10c. Isole Jonie, the other with 50 on 10 lepta together with Isole Jonie 20c. and 30c.

A little tone spotting of scant significance to this rare combination cover.

(Orange Free State Bisect) 1868 (May 27) small envelope to Somerset East. The letter is believed to have been carried privately to Phillipolis postmaster (A.P.J. van der Poel), the sender having pinned a 1/-, the Postmaster bisected it, replaced half the stamp and the pin, and added a 4d. Cape, on arrival at Colsberg the stamps were cancelled, the cancel not taking to the bisected stamp because of the pin. A most remarkable and unusual item. With fine explanatory article by Douglas Roth in the Spt 1956 South African Philatelist, a Certificate from that year and a RPSL Cert of 1984.

(some trimmed perfs) tied by Taganrog 15 Apr 65 cds with circular FRANCO handstamp alongside, disinfected in Odessa with fumigation slits and released 21 Apr, “50” in red crayon denoting charge of 50 lepta for French ship letter fee with Greece Large Hermes Heads 10l. and 40l. applied and tied by Piraeus cds, a very attractive combination franking, Ex Dr. Casey.

A fine cover with Philatelic Foundation (1970, 1984) and Sismondo (2005) certificates. Ex. Grant Glasco 1969 and Klempka. Fine and very rare.
