1831 envelope to Riga, Latvia bearing rare red cyrillic Sankt Petersburg with single large 5 pointed star at base (Not in Dobin, Baillie & Peel 1B(R)3v2). This rare cancel was used in late 1829 and 1831.

1833 incoming entire from Marseille to Basse Terre with framed ‘POINTE A PITRE/ GUADELOUPE/ 12 FEVRIER 1833’; a little erosion on back and small stain on front. Ex. Grabowski.


1834 (March 26) entire letter from Paris to St. Pierre, endorsed “Belisaire”, charged at “60” centimes in manuscript upon arrival, with forwarding agent carriage denoted in manuscript on reverse with “Acheminee par Lamotte du Havre”. Some edge wear and splitting. Scarce.


1835 (2nd Nov) entire to Gibraltar bearing red straight-line CADIZ handstamp, manuscript “13 ½q” applied San Roque for second weight letter rate. The entire sent to Robert Anderson and co. with enclosure to be delivered to Mr Bartolome Lombardo, Captain of the Sardinian Brig “El Crocodillo” for transmission to Havana.

1838 incoming disinfected cover from Alexandrie (Egypte), endorsed “Col vapour Francea”, reverse with small straight-line ‘14 May; 8d’ with manuscript addition for French Postage, remains of red disinfection wax seal. Unusual mixture of accountancy.

1839 (20 Jan) outer letter sheet to London bearing handstamped '3' and oval Bogota Franco handstamp, at bottom left red-brown Carthagena fleuron, a transit handstamp used in Jamaica, reverse with unclear Kingston Jamaica date stamp, double-arc London arrival of 1 Apr; fine and fresh condition.

1840 (13 Marzo) entire to Firenze bearing fine 'Coat of Arms' handstamp on front and ornate framed 'CORFU' date stamp on reverse, disinfected in transit with two slits, straight-line 'Malta Post Office' handstamp, reverse with straight-line 'LIVORNO' and two-line 'APRILE/1840' handstamp. Small part of entire missing but generally fine appearance.


1840 entire to Edinburgh without any sign of despatch but the author of the short letter, Clinton Spalding is recorded around 1838-45 at St. Croix (Christiansted and later at St Thomas). The reverse shows unframed green LEEWARD ISLAND F without date applied at Falmouth, arrival cancel alongside.
