1851 (11 Mar) cover to Ireland bearing 'crown circle' Paid at Corfu, Corfu cds in association, red Paid cds of 27MR on front and red cds of next day on reverse together with ennis arrival cds of next day.

1851 (14 Mai) mourning cover to England franked horizontal pair of 1849-50 40c. with close to good margins all round cancelled by two grille handstamps and British Paid cds, Boulogne S Mer cds at left, arrival backstamp; some very slight toning but still a fine and attractive first issues cover.

1851 (23 Juil) entire to Baltimore franked 1849-50 Ceres 25c. horizontal pair (small fault bottom right corner) and 1f. with four large margins tied by ‘roller grill’, Paris cds in association at right, red framed PD and BR PACKET ‘5’ BOSTON date stamp at centre, annotated “by/ steamer/ from Liverpool”; a small closed tear runs down through to 'C' of 'Franc' on the 1f. an attractive first issue transatlantic cover.

1851-57 10c. Washington, type III (Sc 14) with close to full margins tied by blueBerkley Mass. date stamp, addressed to Carlton Place, Canada West. At left red two-line UNITED STATES/ PAID 6 accountancy. Reverse with faint Toronto transit and arrival cds.

1852 (20 Fevr) ‘Presidence’ 25c. blue close to large margins tied by ‘gros points’ on envelope to New Orleans with two strikes of framed ‘affrancht- Insuffisant’, a most unusual underfranked cover with this issue.


1852 (JY 22) entire to Quebec, Canada endorsed “Via Steamship/ to/ New York” bottom left and “Paid Ship 4d/ Inland 8d” top right, with Jamaica Paid (JY 24) double-arc date stamp, reverse with Montego Bay Jamaica date stamp, St Thomas transit (JY 31) and various arrivals. Entire from “Providence Estate, St James” addressed to a member of the Legislative Council with both Quebec and Toronto included in address and forwarded between them with a 3d. charge at Quebec but no further charges raised; light vertical filing crease.

1852 (March 20) entire date lined from Moscow to Mobile, Ala bearing oval framed ‘Steam/ 5’ handstamp, at centre a good example of red oval Frank Lyon handstamp illustrated with a lion. A fine example of this handstamp used on the Tombigbee River, Ex. Eggen.

1852 (May 26) entire to Plainfield, Mass bearing single franking 3c. deep orange brown tied by New York cds; stamp with one touched margin and damaged bottom left corner. A distinctive fresh shade.


1852 cover to Edinburgh endorsed "pr First December Packet", manuscript rate, reverse with "MONEAGUE" despatch date stamp, KINGSTON transit and arrival cancels; with contents.

1852 entire to Trieste bearing two-line Smyrne handstamp, St Andrews Cross indicating payment to destination, annotated to go via Lloyd Austriaco line.

1852 Rayon III 15rp large figures tied to ‘Nachnahme’ wrapper from Frauenfeld to Kaltenbach with thimble cds on front and blue Stammheim backstamp. Stamp very fine with huge margins showing complete outer frame lines, SBPV Certificate.

1852 small entire to St. Gallen, Switzerland, franked 40c. cut into at top with three other large margins showings parts of adjoining stamps, tied grille cancel, Paris despatch cds at right, reverse with Basel entry cds and arrival cds.


1853 (Feb) small cover to Rangoon, Burma bearing double circle Ex/ Calcutta date stamp on reverse, the front carries endorsement “Pr Str India”; good condition.
