1864 (Mr 14) Envelope to USA franked 4d rose pair tied by New Providence cds, manuscript notation 'Per Str Corsica', New York transit alongside, envelope with fault bottom right.

1864 (SP 3) cover from Dingle to Goderich, franked at 15c. triple rate with 1859 5c. 'Beaver' and 10c 'Prince Consort' tied by two pen strokes with despatch cds at lower left, transit and arrival backstamps; folded at left and minor marks, still much above average for such a franking


1864 10k Black postal stationery envelope, 1855 narrow tail issue watermark 1 mirror image, 140 x 110mm, sent from Yaroslav to Chobaninie near Wieruszow (Warsaw region in Poland), on arrivl two different types of Warsaw transit cds in red applied; very fine, the earliest known usage of this stationery on arrival in Poland.

1864 outer letter sheet to PERNAU franked pair 10k. tied by two Cyrillic RIGA cds, repeated on reverse together with arrival cds.

1864 outer letter sheet to St Petersburg franked pair 10k. tied cyrillic REVAL cds with further strike on reverse. Russia No.5!


1865 (Aug 11) envelope to Kensington, London endorsed “Via Marseilles” franked 2c. and 30c. each with blue ‘B62’ obliterator, London W Paid cds , the envelope being redirected from there without further charge and small crown over ‘R’ inspectors handstamp to confirm this, reverse with blue despatch and final London arrivals of SP 30; attractive cover.

1865 (May 18) entire to Cognac, France endorsed “Via Panama” with despatch cds at top right, faint company chop at left, routed through New York with ‘9’ charge date stamp, black handstamped ‘15’, red French entry cds, reverse with French transits and arrival cds.

1865 (May 6) cover to Victoria, Canada bearing single franking 10c. tied target cancel with Tonawanda N.Y. date stamp alongside, U.S.10cts/Paid oval handstamp to right, reverse with arrival cancels; fine and attractive cross border rate cover.

1865 (Oct 21) entire to Caracas from Valencia franked 1863-65 ½ real yellow (2), both with variable margins, both cancelled with a figure ‘8’ handstamp. A central paper stain, maybe old tape, otherwise good appearance.

1865 entire to Belfast, Ireland franked pair 15c. of fine deep colour tied framed FRANCO handstamps, Rotterdam dispatch cds and to left of this straight-line LATE MAIL handstamp, outed via London, arrival backstamp.

1865 entire to Mersina franked 2pi. deep blue and rose with four large even margins tied COMPAGNIE RUSSE DE NAVIGATION/ SMYRNE handstamp (Thcil. Fig. 150). A beautiful and rare cover, Ex Lipschutz and Cihangir.

1865 large part outer letter sheet to Naples franked two 3kr. perf 14 plus 15kr perf 9½ tied oval Triest date stamps, large unframed ‘P.D.’ at right, arrival backstamp.


1865 two entires from Odessa to Marseille each charged 11 decimes on arrival, bearing boxed 'Aus Russland' cachets and two different types of oval-framed 'Porto 3' handstamps.






1865-66 three ‘Seated Helvetia’ printed commercial covers to Constantinople, all from Butschwyl, April 1865 30r red and 60r copper bronze, endorsed to travel via “Wien & Kustendje”, Dec 1865 cover with three colour franking at 90r rate to go via Trieste and 1866 cover endorsed to go by Marseille and franked two 60r copper bronze, the first two with arrival cancels of Austrian offices and the last French, a fine trio of covers, two with BPB Certs and last with P Guinand Cert .


1865-67 10pa rose and blue top marginal block of four cancelled PORT LATAKIA blue-green cds, a few minor discolouration marks on front and some paper on reverse, various expertising handstamps including Diena and Bolaffi.
