1858 cover to Parkhurst, Isle of Wight franked Great Britain 1855-57 6d wing marginal cancelled by ‘G’ obliterator, Gibraltar cds to left, reverse with London transit and Newport I.W. cds; small tear at top of envelope.

1858 entire from Central Anatolia with fine blue negative seal of Kutahya (RR), with central vertical crease and generally fragile.

1858 folded entire to Syros bearing Thessaloniki Turquia cds, small red framed handstamp at right, arrival backstamp; fresh condition.



1858 highly decorated small Christening envelope with much gold decoration, inscribed at centre Erinnerung/ an den Tag Deiner Weihe/ im Christenlund. With a small enclosure with manuscript date.

1858 incoming outer letter sheet from Madras, India to Rangoon with ships endorsement and franked 1865 1a horizontal strip of three tied by diamond of dots handstamps, at centre framed ‘RANGOON/ SHIP LETTER/ Bg. ANNA’ three-line handstamp with manuscript charge, this suffering from ink erosion, horizontal filing crease, otherwise good appearance.


1858 large outer letter sheet, 300 x 115mm,from ‘Comandancia/ De Marina/ De/ Nuevitas to Puerto Principe, bearing blue despatch cds and oval grill handstamp with, on reverse, handstamped ‘48’ charge in same ink.


1858 mourning cover and 1875 cover front to France, both franked at 1d. rate with red and black INSUFFICIENTY/ PREPAID handstamps in red and black, an attractive pair

1858-62 6d. vermilion, a hinged mint and used example both with good clear margins, both fine and fresh, SG 28

1859 (April 15) envelope from London to Nassau, Bahamas, addressed to a Lieut. MacKenzie, 1st W.I. Regt and franked at 6d. military post rate with 1855-57 issue tied by heavy barred cancel, annotated “Via Liverpool & New York”, reverse with blue undated Hyde Park cds.

1859 (AU 12) entire to Kingston, Canada franked 1855-57 watermark Large Garter 4d. pair tied by two ‘Glasgow 159’ duplex, red L (Liverpool) transit; ironed out filing crease at base, otherwise good fresh condition.


1859 cover addressed care of a Doctor at the British Museum, forwarded to Oxford, from St Petersbourg, Russia with diamond framed despatch on reverse which also displays a Gt Russell St, a red London and an Oxford cds, on forwarding envelope to Oxford a 1d. red has been added over ‘PORTO’ handstamp with fine ‘7 1/2 ‘ charge handstamp alongside. Torn bottom flap to envelope otherwise fine and scarce.

1859 outer letter sheet to London bearing ornate-framed PORTO, sent via Aachen where ‘7½ ‘ charge raised with handstamp, this has been crossed out and manuscript “11 ½” applied on arrival.

1859-1860 Three items with entire to Bordeaux with OUTRE-MER PAVILLAC date stamp, charged at 60c. as no indication of origin, so charge international rate, envelope with Direction De La Poste Aux Lettres St Louis Senegal hand stamp and ‘COL FR ANGL AMB CALAIS’ date stamp and entire similarly handstamped, without the PD but same maritime cancel.

1860 (18/8) entire to Syros with Thessaloniki despatch cds, Salonico commercial chop bottom left, arrival backstamp; good condition.

1860 2C. Andrew Jackson with small grill, Scott 93, tied to small ‘Le Messager Franco-Americain’ wrapper by segmented cork cancel, red French accountancy at centre, without backstamps; fine condition.

1860 entire from Odessa with company chop bottom left, forwarded to Constantinople with agents handstamp on reverse, addressed to Malta and carried on French ship ‘Borysthene’ with cds top right, at double rate 2/- on arrival manuscript charge, arrival backstamp.

1860 entire from RIGA to ABERDEEN with Cyrillic despatch cds on reverse, together with LONDON transit and arrival cds, various manuscript rate markings plus '7½' accountancy handstamp.
