1869-74 group of four covers to Stuttgart, Germany, the 1874 cover with HARPER PAID date stamp, the others carried privately and entering the posts in Liverpool or London.

1870 (29/1) outer letter sheet to Stockholm franked strip of four 3o. (Three type II and one type III) tied by Goteborg date stamp; very fine.


1870 (Apr 21) 3c stationery envelope to London uprated 1869 3c. ‘Locomotive’ cancelled Albany duplex, paying the new Treat Rate effective from Jan 1870, red New York transit and arrival cds; without backflap otherwise sound.

1870 (Sept 5) orange-brown envelope to Norway franked 1870-71 two 2c. brown ‘Jackson’ and 1869 12c. ‘S.S. Adriatic’ with violet pen crosse and annotated in same ink at side “Shabbona Ill/ Sept 5/ 70”, the stamps additionally tied by large red ‘Wfro 2’ accountancy handstamp, New York 5 transit and Christiania cds of 25/9, reverse with red Sandosund arrival.


1870 entire to France bearing 2c ‘Post Horse and Rider’ pair tied segmented cork handstamp, a blue dated company handstamp at left and a red New York cds at right, oval-framed ‘GB/ 40c’ accountancy handstamp, London transit on reverse together with various French cds.


1870 entire to France bearing single franking 6c ‘Washington’ tied segmented cork handstamp, New Orleans despatch cds to left oversturck with oval framed accountancy ‘GB/40c’, New York transit bottom right and French entry cds from England at left, reverse with arrival backstamps; Attractive appearance but the stamp is creased.

1870 entire to Livorno, Italy franked pair 4d vermilion, CD-CE, pl.11, tied 'MALTA/Code A/A25' duplex, red unframed "P.D." and manuscript "5½"; Napoli transit and arrival backstamps.

1870 entire to London with ‘1/-‘ charge handstamp and A Panama cds of British Post Office, red arrival backstamp. Fine clean example.

1870 entire to Marseille franked 1863-71 Laureated Napoleon 40c. tied ‘anchor’ lozenge with Mersina maritimes date stamp to right, overstruck by red maritime cachet, framed PD towards base, arrival backstamp, bottom left shows company handstamp of Tarsous; fine and scarce.

1870 mourning wrapper from unknown South American provenance addressed to Paris, France, annotated to travel via the United States, the front bearing New York ‘12’ transit and faint London cds as well as fine diamond-framed accountancy ‘G.B./ 3f.60c., Calais A Paris tpo and rated ‘12’ decimes on arrival. Some damage to rear.

1870 outer letter sheet annotated on inside flap as from AIN MACHERAH to LYON franked 4c. Laureated Napoleon tied '5082' large numeral lozenge with BEYROUTH cds below, framed 'PD' and framed red maritime handstamp; MARSEILLE entry and arrival backstamps.

1870 outer letter sheet to Constantinople franked 10k. without date stamp and cancelled in transit with a retta handstamp, Odessa commercial handstamp bottom left; some slight ageing and ironed out filing crease, unusual item.


1870 wrapper put into the British post at Buenos Ayres, addressed to Naples. On reverse LONDON transit with their accountancy mark 'GB/1F60c' on the obverse alongside the subsequent French handstamp 'F.56'. Rated 10 decimes on arrival and 1L postage due affixed.

1870s 120 reis curved label postal stationery envelope essay, 146 x 78mm. The stamp image is heavily embossed onto the paper with clear indentations of design on reverse; good condition.

1871 (12 juil) internal entire to Angers bearing mixed franking 1863-71 Laureated Napoleon 1c horizontal strip of five and pair Ceres 10c. tied gros chiffres ‘4243’, transit and arrival backstamps.

1871 (20 Sept) entire to Bordeaux franked 1863-71 Laureated Napoleon 1c. horizontal strip of five in combination with 1870-71 20c. tied by gros chiffres ‘2032’ with Libourne cds in association.

1871 (20 Sept) internal folded outer letter sheet to Rouen franked 1863-71 Laureated Napoleon 1c. and 4c. in combination with 1879-71 Ceres 20c. tied by ‘gros chiffres’ 1769 with Le Havre cds in assciation, arrival backstamp; small paper loss on reverse otherwise fine.

1871 (21/9) entire to Linkoping franked 1858 24o. orange tied Stockholm cds. Good fresh colour, light vertical filing crease away from stamp.

1871 (22 Mars) outer letter sheet to Madrid franked 187040c. Bordeaux tied by gros chiffres ‘359’ with Bayonne cds in association, framed PD at base, red arrival cds and black ‘spider’ cancel.
