GREAT BRITAIN USED ABROAD: COLON 1881 Oct 6 Envelope to London franked 1880 1s orange-brown plate 13 lettered I-G, well centered, 1 shortish corner perf., tied by barred 'B16' cancel, blue Colon E.U. de Colombia despatch with matching blue 'T' in circle handstamp, obliterated by a further B16 strike, London Oct 29 arrival backstamp. Envelope with couple of minor folds. The British P.O. closed prior to the usage of this stamp but not not picked up by the mail clerk at Plymouth who cancelled it 'B16'. Rarity. ex Saylor.


GREAT BRITAIN USED IN MAYAGUEZ, PORTO RICO: 1876 (July 23): Entire letter to Santander, Spain, endorsed "Via Inga" franked ½ d. with damaged corner, 1 d., 2 d. and 10 d. with "MAYAGUEZ PORTO RICO / PAID" despatch cds of the British Post Office. As this datestamp only tied the 1d. adhesive four 'C51' obliterators were applied in transit at St. Thomas, Danish West Indies, LONDON transit at centre, arrival backstamp (Aug 15), rated "1. 30" (1 pes 30 c). Vertical filing crease affecting stamps not detracting from a very fine four colour franking. SG Z1 + Z3 + Z5 + Z27


GREAT BRITAIN USED IN PANAMA: 1886 (Aug): Cover to Newbury, franked 1884 4 d. green tied "C35 / PANAMA" duplex with arrival backstamp. Roughly opened causing tears to top of envelope, a late usage of the 4 d. rate at the Panama Packet Agency following entry of Colombia into UPU on 1 July 1881. Very rare with only two such covers recorded and this stamp unlisted by SG used in Panama. Certificate RPSL (2006).

GREAT BRITAIN/ INDIA: 1838 Folded letter missing side flaps addressed to Aberdeen Scotland, presumably originating in India with Calcutta Shipletter 4 Mar 1838 boxed cachet on reverse, alongside fine strike of the very rare boxed INDIA LETTER/ TEIGNMOOTH in red, only 4 recorded, all od which have the same London Aug 11th transit marking indicating a high likelihood that only one East India man ever dropped off mail at the small Devon port, ex Manning, S. Chazen.


GREAT BRITAIN/CANADA: 1800 Aug 14 Entire from Quebec per the 'Albion' to Greenock, rated '11' (4d ship, 2d captain and 5d inland), reverse struck with superb CAMBLETON/SHIP:LRE' and CAMBLE/TOWN, very fine and rare. Robertson notes this as the first Scottish type of named ship-letter.
