GREAT BRITAIN: 1887: Queen Victoria Jubilee, 2½ d. green & yellow, Trial Colour on Wove, watermark Crown perf. 14 with original gum, neatly hinged once, strong colour on fresh brilliant paper, nice centering and margins, Very fine and choice, a remarkable and extremely rare trial produced to demonstrate how to avoid the newly discovered threat of photographic forgery, ex Weiss & Besançon SG Spec. K31TC. On 23 November 1887, De La Rue's attention was drawn to the problems caused by the art of photography. They prepared a report on the subject dated 26 January 1888 which included line perf 14 colour trials of 2½ d., 3 d. & 6 d. values on coloured paper different from those issued. SG 201TC

GREAT BRITAIN: 1898 (19 May) Parcel tag to Switzerland with Parcel Post label attached for PAYHEMBURY with Jubilee 6d. purple red (3) tied by Ottery St Mary (Devon) violet canceller. 1/6d. payment for a parcel not exceeding 3lb sent via France which was 3d. cheaper than via belgium, some peripheral staining affecting base of stamps.


GREAT BRITAIN: 1901 (FE 28) EXPRESS envelope to Bournemouth franked 1d lilac (corner fault) + Jubilee 1d pair tied by Twyford squared circle ds's with magenta 'M – No. 55. / POST OFFICE / EXPRESS label alongside, with Reading transit & arrival bs's, trifle soiled, still an attractive franking.

GREAT BRITAIN: 1910 Parcel Post card to Switzerland (Olten) franked KEVII 9d. pair + single (corner fault) + 3d. (faulty) sent from Liverpool, cancelled with bars, manuscript ‘Delivered free of charge’, franking of 2/6d. for a parcel exceeding 7lb, not exceeding 11lb, highly unusual.

GREAT BRITAIN: CORNWALL 1841 (Dec 11) Part entire, the right hand side adhered to card from the ship ‘Ellen’ at Macao to ‘ Wardhill House By Old Rain, Aberdeenshire’, charged at ‘1/4’, double ship letter rate; the reverse with superb stepped box type ‘MEVAGISSEY/SHIP LETTER’ (S.1), the face with ‘ST AUSTELL’ 04.05.42 sorting datestamp, and London 08.05.42 transit and boxed ‘OLDRAIN’ 09.05.42 receiving datestamp on opposite reverse flap. Greece 1767 folded entire from Smyrne, forwarded at Salonique by "Tavernier" (recorded by Rowe in 1767 only), held for three weeks and then sent to Naples where disinfected, a yellow cursive 'Salonico' applied in transit at Rome by the Neapolitan post Office; a rare item.

Greece 1911 75L. postal stationery parcel card to Switzerland additionally franked with six 25L. Hermes tied Pireaus cds; very fine and attractive.
