(Postage Due) 1932 (3 OC) incoming printd commercial cover from India, underfranked on reverse by two 1a. tied Kalavad cds of 17 Sep, Kalavad/Due horseshoe taxmark (partly obscured) and bold ‘T 10 Cents’to indicate double deficiency in gold centimes, part arrival backstamp of 2 OC, with 1930-33 6c. black/yellow (6th setting, 1st printing, R2/2) applied on face and tied by Reg Zanzibar cds of following day. (Postage Due) 1932 (3 Sep) unpaid ‘Cutress’ cover from London with Telephone slogan cancel, hexagonal ‘T/30/L’ charge handstamp to indicate double deficiency of 1 ½d. x 2 (= 30 gold centimes), arrival backstamp of 2 OC, with 1926-30 18c. black/orange postage due (R2/2 on sheet) applied on face and tied by very fine Reg Zanzibar double-circle cds of following day. (Postage Due) 1934 (23 Aug) unpaid cover from Majunga, Madagascar with despatch on front together with triangular framed ‘T’, manuscript “R” (in pencil) and “100” in red crayon. On reverse arrival cds with postage dues to value of 31c. (apparently rflecting a recaluculated deficinency of 50 gold centimes) applied, comprising 1926-30 9c black/orange certical strip of 3 (R3-5/1 on sheet, showing ‘cent.s’ error on central stamp) and 1930-33 2c. black/salmon horizontal pair (6th setting, 3rd printing, R2/1-2) tied by three strikes of Reg/ Zanzibar cds. Some creasing affecting some stamps, still a spectacular and desirable mixed issue franking, with rare commercial usage of 9c. error in a se-tenant mutiple, which is also the latest recorded date of this value. (Postage Due) 1936 (14 NO) incoming airmail cover from Kilindini, Kenya, underfranked with ‘T’ handstamp and m/s “2/50” on despatch, indicating a double deficiency of 50 (gold centimes) = 40 Zanzibar cents, 1936 40c. ultramarine postage due applied and tied Reg. Zanzibar cds of 16 NO. Some slight imperfections still a very fine and rare cover, being the earliest recorded commercial usage of the 1936 Due issue, and the first involving an airmail rate. (Transvaal) 1906 embossed ‘stamp’ postcard with a further smaller Christmas illustration of military band, attached by paperclips, from Ermelo to Stellenbosch, franked at ½d. postcard rate but not accepted as this with handstamped ‘T’ , “1d” manuscript charge and endorsed “Letter Rate”. Fine condition.
(Treaty Ports) 1886 incoming envelope from United States to its consulate at Foochow, franked 5c grey-brown that appears not to have been cancelled though there is some discolouration at top right, faint blue Hampton cds alongside, fine black ‘25/T’ charge handstamp applied at Foochow, reverse with San Francisco transit, Hong Kong transit (MR 4) and Foochowfoo arrival (MR 11); fine and scarce.
